Ecology & Safety Corner
Responding to the environmental problems currently facing our age of motorization is one of the most pressing issues we face at Honda.
At the 'Ecology & Safety' Corner we introduce the leading motorcycle technologies Honda has developed with an eye to the future directions motorcycles must take in order to meet and overcome these challenges. The models on this stage feature Honda's latest environmental technologies (e-TECH) and vanguard safety technologies, offered as proposals for just some of the ways we would like to contribute to even better relationships between motorcycles, people, society, and the environment.

Honda e-TECH features original technologies we have developed based on our acute awareness of how important it truly is to imbue all of our products and endeavors with environmental friendliness. Just one example is our use of the world's first* liquid-cooled four-stroke engine in a 50cc scooter to reduce the harmful carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) components in emissions to 50% of their legal limits according to local regulations. *Honda data

Length/1,642mm Width/620mm Height/1,030mm
Engine & Motor Type/4-stroke OHC Single with DC
brushless motor
Displacement/49cm3

This new commuter scooter is designed as an ultra-low fuel consumption vehicle for a cleaner tomorrow. Its hybrid powerplant is comprised of a 50cc 4-stroke engine with programmed electronically controlled fuel injection (PGM-FI*) coupled with a clean-running, quiet, compact electric motor. This powerplant is combined with Honda's revolutionary ''Idle-Stop & Run'' system, which reduces emissions and fuel consumption to zero when stopped, and an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to achieve major reductions in emissions, excellent fuel economy, and some of the smoothest, most efficient running performance around.

GIORNO Crea Deluxe Skeleton model
|
Length/1,685mm Width/630mm Height/1,005mm
Engine Type/Liquid-cooled 4-stroke OHC single
Displacement/49cm3
|
The GIORNO Crea features a clear blue skeleton design evoking images of the clean, clear, beautiful skies that its high-tech 4-stroke engine and lightweight aluminium frame help make possible.
|
Cutaway Engine
This liquid-cooled 4-stroke 50cc engine is clean, quiet, and
extremely fuel efficient. It features a highly efficient combustion chamber
and an air-injection system for recombustion of exhaust gas, a throttle
sensor, and other technologies that combine to reduce carbon monoxide and
hydrocarbon emissions to about half* the limits stipulated by Japan's new
domestic exhaust emissions regulations. Fuel consumption is also reduced
by an estimated 30%*.

Aluminum Die-Cast Frame
The GIORNO Crea is the first domestically produced scooter to feature a high-rigidity aluminium die-cast frame that allows a greater degree of design freedom and significantly reduces the number of parts. Made of a corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy that requires no painting, it is also suitable for application to other models and requires less energy and cost to manufacture. The aluminium is also easy to recycle.

Liquid-cooled 50cc 4-stroke PGM-FI engine
|
|
This prototype system aims to achieve ideal combustion conditions by equipping a liquid-cooled 50cc engine with programmed electronically controlled fuel injection system (PGM-FI), conventionally regarded technically difficult in small-displacement engines because of the sophisticated production technologies and precision electronic control technologies involved. PGM-FI maintains an ideal fuel-air mixture ratio at all times, at all engine speeds, resulting in more complete combustion that ensures easier starting, cleaner exhaust, better fuel efficiency, and higher power output.

VFR800FI
|
Length/2,180mm Width/735mm Height/1,190mm
Engine Type/Liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC V-4
Displacement/781cm3
|
This V4 powered super road sports machine features the latest in clean air technologies, including
an electronic fuel injection system (PGM-FI),
a secondary air injection system, and a 3-way catalyzer that combine to significantly reduce exhaust emissions. Yet, its sporty performance on winding roads and superb tandem touring potential remain virtually unaffected, for both high performance and environmental compatibility.

Length/1,660mm Width/630mm Height/1,015mm
Engine Type/Air-cooled 4-stroke OHC single
Displacement/49cm3
|
Equipped with the same durable, clean, quiet, and highly economical 4-stroke 50cc engine used in our legendary Super Cub, the giorcub delivers approximately 110km worth of scooter mobility for every liter of fuel*. That means it can go about 1.6 times as far as a conventional scooter on a single fill-up, while also offering the kind of clean, quiet performance that easily clears strict environmental regulations. Even better, it comes equipped with a 4-speed pedal-shifted manual transmission that contributes to low fuel consumption and enhances pure operating pleasure.
*At 30km/h over level ground,as reported to the Japanese Ministry of Transport.

HONDA Riding Simulator
|
The Honda Riding Simulator is an educational tool that helps prevent motorcycle accidents by simulating potential dangers commonly encountered during motorcycle riding in order to improve riders' ability to identify and avoid dangerous situations. Featuring a large screen and simulated rearview mirrors that offer a realistic sense of movement and proximity, it is also equipped with realistic gear shifting and braking functions and augmented with simulated wind and sound in order to duplicate the riding experience as closely as possible. Based on Honda's idea that riding safety is based as much on state-of-mind as it is on machine performance, the Honda Riding Simulator allows riders a safe way to gain experience confronting the kinds of dangerous situations impossible to duplicate in conventional riding schools, leading them to a better understanding of safety-related issues and helping them to cultivate the riding techniques and attitudes they need most in order to avoid accidents. |
